NLIHC hosted a national HoUSed campaign call on June 20. NLIHC Senior Vice President of Research Andrew Aurand shared key findings from the newly released Out of Reach report and discussed federal policy solutions needed to address the housing crisis. Gina Plata-Nino of the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) discussed the expansion of harsh time limits on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits enacted in the debt ceiling bill. We also received field updates from Stephanie Watkins-Cruz from the North Carolina Housing Coalition and Christine Hess and Brooke Page from the Nevada Housing Coalition. NLIHC Policy Manager Kim Johnson discussed a harmful proposal to cut funding from the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) bill – which provides HUD with crucial funds for rental assistance, homelessness assistance, and community development programs – and discussed the advocacy needed to ensure the highest level of funding for housing and homelessness programs.
A recording of the call, as well as the presentation slides, are now available.
