The June 9 national HoUSed campaign call focused on the importance of connecting affordable housing to healthcare and resident services. Presenters on this call also shared federal updates on disaster housing recovery.
Marcella Maguire from the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) discussed CSH’s recently launched National Center for Housing and Health. The Center is dedicated to advancing strategies to connect affordable housing and healthcare services to improve outcomes for individuals and communities. Housing and health are deeply connected, and Marcella explained how the Center works to showcase new and proven approaches and policies to align housing and health.
We were also joined by Althea Arnold of Stewards of Affordable Housing for the Future (SAHF), who shared findings from two recent reports on the benefits of residential services in affordable housing properties. The first report, produced in partnership with Abt Global, demonstrates the benefits to property financial and operating performance. The second report finds that resident services coordination is strongly associated with improved housing stability, financial security, and health outcomes.
NLIHC Director of Disaster Recovery Noah Patton provided a brief overview of HUD and FEMA disaster assistance and shared updates on advocacy efforts to include the “Reforming Disaster Recovery Act” in any final bipartisan housing supply bill. Lindsay Duvall, manager of member engagement at NLIHC, closed the call by sharing how attendees can get involved in NLIHC’s work.
A recording of the call, along with presentation slides, is now available. Register here for NLIHC’s next national HoUSed campaign call on June 23 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET.
