Elected to U.S. Congress in 2016, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal is now serving her third term, representing Washington’s 7th District, which encompasses most of Seattle and its surrounding areas. She is the first South Asian-American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives and one of only two dozen naturalized citizens currently serving in Congress. Representative Jayapal is the chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, which will receive NLIHC’s 2022 Edward Brooke Housing Leadership Award at this year’s Leadership Awards Celebration on April 28.
The forum will also feature a special address by U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia L. Fudge, as well as keynote speakers and panels on: Racial Equity and Housing Justice featuring MacArthur “Genius” award-winning photographer LaToya Ruby Frazier; the HoUSed Campaign for Universal, Stable, Affordable Housing – Progress To-Date and the Road Ahead; Capitol Hill Insiders Panel; Expanding the Multi-Sector Affordable Housing Movement; Ending Rental Arrears to Stop Evictions; Achieving Renter Protections; Best Practices in Organizing; and ; and Discussions with Senior Administration Officials and Members of Congress, including an in-depth conversation between Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) and NLIHC President and CEO Diane Yentel.
