Take Action! Sign Onto CHCDF Letter Calling on Increased Funding for Vital Housing Programs in FY27

Apr 24, 2026

The Campaign for Housing and Community Development Funding (CHCDF) has released an updated organizational sign-on letter urging Congress to provide the highest possible funding for HUD and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) affordable housing, homelessness, and community development programs in fiscal year (FY) 2027. The letter also asks Congress to include provisions in all appropriations bills that prevent the executive branch from withholding, rescinding, or cutting congressionally approved funding. Organizations are invited to sign onto this letter by May 1.

Background

CHCDF is a coalition of more than 70 national organizations working to ensure the highest possible funding for federal affordable housing, homelessness, and community development programs. NLIHC is a member of CHCDF’s steering committee, and provides the group with administrative support.

The letter supports CHCDF’s congressional advocacy to increase federal investments in HUD and USDA affordable housing, homelessness, and community development programs through the annual appropriations process. In addition to increasing these vital federal investments, the letter urges Congress to “include language in all appropriations bills to block any attempt by the executive branch to withhold, rescind, or otherwise cut congressionally-approved funding.”

The Trump administration has taken actions such as “pocket recissions,” dismissing federal employees, and withholding funds, which have hindered the distribution of congressionally approved funding and undermined congressional authority.   Congress should ensure that all final FY27 spending bills prevent the administration from disregarding congressional intent and guarantee that funding reaches intended communities.
