NLIHC Hosted National Call (6/24) on Hurricane Season Preparedness

Jun 30, 2025

Amid the 2025 hurricane season, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has faced significant staff and funding cuts that will compromise its ability to prepare, respond, and assist communities in recovering from disasters. Harmful cuts to FEMA operations disrupt the processes needed to ensure equitable disaster response – which disproportionately impacts the lowest income and most marginalized communities.

THE IMPACT

On Tuesday, June 24, NLIHC hosted a national call on how advocates can ensure that their communities are prepared for hurricane season. Lead by NLIHC’s Disaster Housing Recovery, Research, and Resilience (DHR) team, the call provided the latest policy updates and resources and tools on how communities can navigate housing recovery during hurricane season. NLIHC ‘s DHR team works with state and local organizations and community leaders to ensure federal disaster recovery efforts reach all impacted households and other at-risk populations who are often the hardest hit by disasters and have the fewest resources to recover afterwards.
