NLIHC Updates State and Congressional District Housing Profiles

NLIHC has updated its State Housing Profiles and Congressional District Housing Profiles to reflect the most recent available data. As in past years, the profiles offer a detailed picture of housing affordability and housing need by income category in each state and congressional district. The profiles are a valuable resource that advocates can use to make a data-driven case for affordable housing to their U.S. Representatives, U.S. Senators, and state elected officials. The State Housing Profiles, which are available for all 50 states and the District of Columbia, contain an array of statistics, maps, and graphics that show the geographic distribution of units affordable to extremely low income renters, the percentage of each income group affected by severe housing cost burden, and housing shortages at each income threshold. In addition, the State Housing Profiles clearly communicate key state-level housing statistics, such as the state affordable housing wage and the percentage of renters in the state that are extremely low income. The updated State Housing Profiles contain state maps that reflect the latest data on the spatial distribution of affordable housing.Congressional District Housing Profiles provide detailed statistics on affordable rental units and rent burdened households at the state and congressional district levels. In order to create a more complete picture of affordability in the rental market, the profiles also contain Out of Reach 2013 data on regional rental affordability for any county or metropolitan statistical area that completely or partially lies within the congressional district. The changes to the Congressional District Housing Profiles consist of updates to the renter statistics at the congressional district level. The updated Congressional District Housing Profiles and State Housing Profiles can be accessed through NLIHC’s Resource Library at http://nlihc.org/library/housingprofiles.
