Established in 1984, the Homelessness Prevention Program provides limited financial assistance to low- and moderate-income tenants in imminent danger of eviction due to temporary financial problems beyond their control. Funds are used to disburse payments in the forms of loans and grants to landlords on behalf of eligible households in danger of homelessness. To be eligible for assistance under the Homelessness Prevention Program, a person or household must be either homeless or in imminent danger of losing their home as a result of eviction for non-payment of rent, or mortgage fore-closure, or some other cause which the Department of Community Affairs determines to be comparable.
