The Opportunity Starts at Home multisector affordable homes campaign launched on April 7 a "Take Action" webpage where advocates can send pre-formatted letters to their federal elected officials urging them to include critical housing resources in the next COVID-19 relief package.
Given the worsening economic outlook brought about by the pandemic, far more resources are needed to meet the urgent needs of people experiencing homelessness and low-income renters. Specifically, Congress must include the following (which were not fully addressed in the previous relief package):
- At least $11.5 billion in Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG)
- $100 billion for emergency rental assistance
- A national moratorium on evictions
- Emergency funds for public housing and other HUD housing providers
Please encourage others in your networks to use this platform to reach out to their federal elected officials. Thus far, advocates have sent 511 letters to Congress through this platform. Help us build the momentum! To send the letter, simply type in your street address and click “submit,” and your letter automatically goes directly to your senators and representative.
Together, we must ensure that the next COVID-19 response package includes these vital housing needs for the lowest-income people.
