Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court issued a decision in City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson allowing jurisdictions to arrest and ticket unhoused people for sleeping outside, even when adequate shelter or housing is not available. The decision is a major setback for unhoused people and communities nationwide working to solve homelessness, giving cover to misguided politicians to use outdated, cruel, and counterproductive measures that will only worsen homelessness. Instead of adopting such measures, jurisdictions must work to provide individuals with stable, accessible, affordable housing and voluntary supportive services through the Housing First model. The Advancing Homelessness Solutions webinar series – hosted by NLIHC, the National Alliance to End Homelessness, and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities – gives advocates the resources and tools they need to promote Housing First and help ensure everyone has a safe, stable, affordable home. Join us in building the political will and congressional support necessary to end homelessness by exploring the webinar series!
