HUD’s Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) has expanded from five to 65 the number of inspection items open for feedback before REAC fully implements the NSPIRE Demonstration (see Memo, 8/26). Added inspection items include standards for bath tubs/showers, pest infestation, and tripping hazards, among others.
According to a Federal Register Notice on August 21, over the course of two years HUD will inspect 4,500 properties willing to voluntarily adopt HUD’s National Standards for the Physical Inspection of Real Estate (NSPIRE) model. HUD is seeking public housing agencies (PHAs) and owners of private HUD-assisted multifamily properties to volunteer for the NSPIRE pilot project.
