The Protecting Immigrant Families Coalition (PIF) held a webinar on Monday, September 8 at 1:00 pm ET titled, “Cruel Summer: Changes to Immigrant Eligibility for Benefits in Trump 2.0.” The agenda for this webinar included an overview of the latest legislative and regulatory changes to immigrant eligibility for public programs and the implications of these changes on immigrants and states.

This summer, Congress and the Trump Administration took unprecedented actions to limit immigrants’ access to public benefits. NLIHC opposes policies that create barriers or remove access for eligible immigrant families to seek or receive housing benefits. For example, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (OBBBA) severely limited eligibility among many lawfully present immigrants for nutrition assistance, child tax credit, higher education, and healthcare, including healthcare provided through the “Affordable Care Act” (ACA), Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

PIF released a reference guide with an easy-to-read chart and timeline illustrating the major changes passed in the OBBBA, clearly defining the law’s impacts on immigrants’ access to public benefits and economic supports (see Memo, 7/14).
