A group of more than 60 mayors sent a letter to the leadership of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees urging Congress to provide more federal funding for public housing. The long-term budget agreement passed in February increased funding levels, and the mayors encourage the Appropriations Committees to “dedicate a portion of that increase to restore federal investment in public housing.” Many public housing units are in desperate need of repairs and cities “with ever shrinking budgets” need federal resources to ensure residents have safe, affordable homes.
