Recap of 11/1 National Disaster Housing Recovery Coalition Webinar

The latest Disaster Housing Recovery Coalition (DHRC) webinar featured senior HUD officials who discussed the implementation of the recently announced HUD Rapid Unsheltered Survivor Housing (RUSH) program, which is dedicated to assisting individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness following a disaster. The call also involved local panelists from Florida and Puerto Rico, who provided updates on disaster recovery efforts.

The call’s featured speakers included:

  • Joe Carlile, Senior Advisor for Budget Policy and Programs, HUD
  • Marion McFadden, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development, HUD
  • Maritere Padilla Rodriguez, Director of Policy and Advocacy, Puerto Rico Operations, Hispanic Federation
  • Lois Healey, CEO, Affordable Homeownership Foundation, Inc. (Ft. Myers, Florida)

We have uploaded a recording of the call, as well as presentation slides.

The DHRC is a group of over 850 local, state, and national organizations working in disaster recovery and housing to ensure that all disaster survivors – including those with the lowest incomes – receive the assistance they need to fully recover. The DHRC holds weekly calls to hear updates from members on disaster recovery efforts from around the country, share best practices, and stay up to date on the latest federal changes to the disaster recovery response framework. The DHRC is a nationally recognized leader in federal recovery reform efforts.

The DHRC also offers working group conversations, which help identify and guide federal policy reforms needed to improve FEMA’s disaster homelessness and housing recovery efforts.

Participate in the DHRC by joining two working groups:

            •  Disaster Recovery Working Group – Every Wednesday at 2 pm ET – This working group focuses on disaster recovery efforts around the nation, shares best practices and lessons learned, and provides updates on the latest federal changes to the disaster recovery response framework.
