It is conference season, and NLIHC staff are traveling across the country, engaging with advocates, sharing the latest data and policy updates, and mobilizing people to get involved in making housing justice happen.
Brooke Schipporeit, senior director of NLIHC’s Field Strategy and Innovation team, recently traveled to Austin, Texas to join NLIHC state partner Texas Homeless Network at their annual conference on ending homelessness. Here, Brooke led a learning lab titled “Change Starts Here” and engaged with over 50 advocates. Attendees engaged in this practical session on tools to move policy, build power, and create systemic change and explored the distinctions between organizing, advocacy, and lobbying, and reflected on what building power means in each of their respective communities. The session walked participants through a hands-on strategy activity to strengthen their advocacy and apply lessons learned. NLIHC is grateful for this opportunity to grow new and deepen existing relationships with advocates in Texas and to work alongside partners like Texas Homeless Network to build power and advance equitable housing solutions.
