NLIHC hosted a National HoUSed Campaign Call on May 13. NLIHC’s Senior Policy Director, Kim Johnson, gave an overview of the impact of the President’s proposed “skinny budget”. Sonya Acost, Senior Policy Analyst at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), shared an overview of the proposal’s cuts and changes to HUD rental assistance programs. Olivia Wein, Senior Attorney with the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC), provided an overview of the request’s implications for the Low-Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), noting that staff responsible for administering LIHEAP at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) were fired from their positions. Lastly, Cathy Alderman, Chief Communications and Public Policy Officer at the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, shared how Colorado affordable housing and homelessness advocates are fighting back against harmful proposals.
