NLIHC seeks to ensure that rents are affordable to each household and federal data accurately reflect housing costs.

NLIHC supports:

  • Including housing cost considerations in the federal poverty level.
  • Timely and accurate data on Fair Market Rents and income limits.
  • Long-term affordability and use restrictions.
  • Perpetual affordability policies, such as those in shared equity and community land trust models.

NLIHC opposes restricting affordability considerations to only those that include both housing and transportation costs.
