Nevada's Welfare Set-Aside Program is a program funded through Nevada's Affordable Housing Trust Fund, also known as Nevada Account for Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHFT). Operated by Nevada's Department of Business and Industry, Division of Housing and funded through a state real property transfer tax, Nevada's AHFT allocates funding to state and local governments to expand and improve the supply of rental housing through new construction and rehabilitation of multifamily projects. Fifteen percent of the AHFT is allocated to the Welfare Set-Aside program for use by the Welfare Division, or by public or non-profit entities, to assist families that are endangered of becoming homeless or homeless, and are in need of assistance with utilities, security deposits, rental assistance or mortgage payment assistance.
