Recap of December 9 National HoUSed Campaign Call

NLIHC hosted a national HoUSed campaign call on December 9. Moderated by NLIHC’s Vice President of Public Policy and Field Organizing Sarah Saadian, the call covered anticipated threats to immigrant communities and housing access for immigrant families in the years ahead. Esther Reyes, Campaign Strategist for the Protecting Immigrant Families (PIF) Coalition, provided an overview of the anticipated threats, using the campaign promises made by incoming President Donald Trump and the policies enacted during his previous term in office as a guide for what we might expect.

Kate Walz, associate director of litigation at the National Housing Law Project (NHLP), and Sonya Acosta, senior policy analyst at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP), discussed the ways NLIHC, NHLP, CBPP, and PIF – along with many other partners – worked together to push back against harmful policy proposals, including a proposed “Mixed Status” rule that would have forced families with mixed immigration status to either forfeit their housing assistance, or evict the member of the family without legal citizenship status. Because these families receive prorated assistance, their subsidy amount is decreased to only cover family members with eligible immigrant status. Esther and NLIHC’s Policy Analyst Kayla Blackwell closed out the call by discussing next steps and resources for advocates to get involved.

A recording of the call, as well as presentation slides, are now available.

Beginning January 2025, NLIHC’s national HoUSed campaign call will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 4 to 5 pm ET. Register for the next call.
