Summary of Monday's (11/14) Our Homes, Our Votes: 2022 Webinar

Thank you to everyone who joined Monday's (11/14) Our Homes, Our Votes webinar, “Holding Candidates to their Campaign Promises”! Monday’s webinar was the final installment of the Our Homes, Our Votes: 2022 webinar series. We encourage everyone who attended an Our Homes, Our Votes: 2022 webinar to fill out the feedback survey.

Neisha McGee, manager of advocacy, engagement, and mobilization at Independent Sector, discussed the importance of ongoing nonpartisan voter outreach. She emphasized that nonprofits must streamline year-round voter engagement, engage their constituencies outside of the election cycle, create a place at the table for policy development, and address barriers to participation.

Molly Jacobson, senior policy analyst at the Virginia Housing Alliance, shared the results of a public opinion poll of Virginia voters and their opinions on housing affordability. The poll found that an overwhelming majority of Virginia voters agree that housing affordability is a serious problem in their community. Molly discussed Virginia Housing Alliance’s plans to pair poll results with district factsheets to advocate for housing solutions and grab the attention of lawmakers.

Cristin Langworthy, community engagement and government relations coordinator at the Housing Network of Rhode Island, discussed next steps for nonpartisan voter engagement campaigns. She shared strategies for assessing the outcomes of voter turnout, determining gaps in participation, and demonstrating the power of low-income renters as a voting bloc to elected officials.
