NLIHC Celebrates Native American Heritage Month

Nov 07, 2025

NLIHC proudly honors Native American Heritage Month—a time to celebrate the enduring traditions, rich histories, and vital contributions of Native American, Native Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian communities.

This month serves as a reflection on the resilience, cultural pride, and advocacy that continue to shape Indigenous communities and inspire future generations. The movement to formally recognize Native heritage began with Dr. Arthur C. Parker, a Seneca Indian and museum director, whose efforts with the Boy Scouts of America helped establish “First Americans Day.” These early efforts laid the foundation for a broader celebration of Native voices and legacies.

In 1990, Congress officially designated November as National American Indian Heritage Month, affirming the importance of honoring Indigenous peoples across the United States.

As an organization committed to equity and justice, we recognize the leadership, wisdom, and lived experiences of Native communities as essential to building a more inclusive and safe future.

We celebrate this month with deep respect and solidarity.

Happy Native American Heritage Month!
