NLIHC Recognizes June as Pride Month

Jun 06, 2025

NLIHC recognizes June as Pride Month–a time of celebration to honor the vibrant, diverse, and inclusive LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and other gender-sex minorities) community and its history, achievements, and progress toward equality. Pride Month is commemorated in June to reflect on the anniversary of the movement-advancing 1969 New York City Stonewall Riots. This month is dedicated to uplifting LGBTQ+ voices and culture–a culture that is further represented with flags honoring all identities and sexual orientations that bring the community to life.

2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Pride celebrations in Washington, DC. The city and the Capital Pride Alliance are commemorating that legacy by hosting WorldPride and inviting LGBTQ+ people and allies from across the globe to celebrate LGBTQ+ resilience during a time of inequity, resistance, and resource insecurity. The origins of Pride Month began as a riot, and that fight continues today as the LGBTQ+ community advocates for humility, unity, and vital resources, such as just housing policy. This month and every month, NLIHC encourages you to honor and celebrate LGBTQ+ joy and advocacy and to advance housing and homelessness solutions to ensure safe, accessible, affordable housing for all.

Happy Pride Month!
