Recap: 3/24 HoUSed Call

Mar 27, 2026

On March 24, NLIHC hosted a national HoUSed campaign call focused on recent regulatory and Congressional actions. NLIHC Senior Vice President of Policy David Gonzalez Rice moderated the call with an overview of panelists and discussion topics. NLIHC Senior Policy Advisor Renee Williams covered HUD regulatory updates on housing assistance and eligibility. In her overview of proposed changes for “mixed-status” families, work requirements and time limits, and 30-day eviction notices, Williams emphasized four core aspects of each proposal: deviation from current law, concerns about efficacy and perpetuated stereotypes, impact, and timeline or opportunities for action. She reiterated the importance of submitting comments, highlighting that each rule could significantly harm individuals’ ability to stay housed.

NLIHC Senior Director of Policy Kim Johnson shared updates on appropriations and housing legislation. She began with FY27 appropriations, noting continued funding cuts to HUD programs and proposals to modify rental assistance delivery in the partial budget request. She clarified that a President’s Budget Request is not binding. Johnson also discussed a possible markup and House vote on a Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) bill, as well as a possible House-Senate conference on the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. She emphasized NLIHC’s support for full funding in housing and homelessness programs and named NLIHC’s top legislative priorities.

NLIHC Director of Disaster Recovery Noah Patton explored the FEMA Act and the Reforming Disaster Recovery Act, first highlighting organizational changes at the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA with the recent confirmation of Mark Wayne Mullin as DHS Secretary. NLIHC Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Campaigns Chantelle Wilkinson gave an update on the SAVE Act, noting its unlikely passage but urging continued advocacy efforts.

NLIHC Vice President of Field Strategy & Innovation Ramina Davidson concluded the call by sharing ways to take action, emphasizing coalition-building.

A recording of the call and the presentation slides are now available. Register for NLIHC’s next national HoUSed campaign call on April 14 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm ET.
